PostDoc: Musculoskeletal Modeling for Lower Limb Orthotic and Prosthetic Technologies
Salary according to TV-L (initially limited to 3 years, with possibility of being extended to 2 more years, full-time)
The post holder will work at the Clinics for Trauma Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the University Medical Center Göttingen (http://cuop-umg.de) and will be hired as part of the newly established BMBF INOPRO project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The candidate should hold a master’s degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or an equivalent degree and a PhD degree or equivalent qualification (at least one year of research experience) in the area of biomechanical modeling with experience in musculoskeletal modeling and simulation and application to wearable assistive technologies including lower limb orthoses and prostheses.
The successful applicant will have accomplished work involving one or more of the following areas: musculoskeletal modeling and simulation, model-based synthesis of bipedal locomotion, identification of muscular/articular impedance, locomotion neuromechanics and energetics, motor learning, and system identification and control.
One of the post holder’s key responsibilities will be the development of computational model-based approaches for the synthesis of human motor skills into advanced orthotic and prosthetic technologies. Candidates must have good programming knowledge including C/C++, Python, and MATLAB programming/scripting packages.
The successful post holder will work towards the following tasks:
- Developing computational frameworks for musculoskeletal modeling and simulation.
- Translating insights from musculoskeletal modeling into biologically inspired control systems for wearable technologies.
Previous experience in a scientific environment will be a great advantage. An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential.
