The Doctoral Program (PhD) in Education with a specialization in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) is seeking highly qualified individuals that want to attain their terminal degree at Virginiaís largest public research university.

The two available graduate assistantship positions are an exciting component of a highly unique partnership between 1) Prince William County Public Schools, and 2) Fairfax County Public Schools and George Mason University Sports Medicine Assessment, Research and Testing (SMART) Laboratory. These positions offer a unique opportunity to provide clinical services and engage in research aiming to reduce injuries and enhance performance of firefighters and high school athletes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to ergonomic analysis, injury prevention and strength and conditioning program development, rehabilitation of work related injuries, and wellness education. We are seeking intelligent, motivated, and enthusiastic professionals with the capacity to combine a curiosity for research with a passion for serving members of the public safety community.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Masterís degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
  2. Proof of current BOC certification is required by the start date
  3. Nationally recognized certification for Strength & Conditioning (e.g., CSCS) required or ability to attain the certification within 6 months of hiring is highly preferred
  4. Virginia Athletic Training Licensure (or eligible to be licensed before start date)
  5. Ability to work week nights and weekends and travel as needed

∑ Renewal is dependent on performance evaluation and funding availability
