The Musculo-Skeletal Research Lab (MSRL) and The
Program in Biomedical Engineering (PIBE)in the State
university of New York at Stony Brook is seeking to
hire a full-time research support specialist.
Background Information:
Program in Biomedical Engineering (PIBE): is a
Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering offering
advanced degree on M.S. and/or Ph.D., which is
structured as an interdisciplinary training
environment for students with an engineering
background or interest. More information on PIBE can

The Musculo-Skeletal Research Laboratories focus on
the physical mechanisms involved in the control of
tissue growth, healing, and homeostasis, and how these
mechanisms can be utilized in the treatment and
prevention of disease and injury. The group emphasizes
interdisciplinary approaches to these problems, from
the in vitro to the clinical level. More information

Function of the job:
The research support technician will be directly
responsible for the on-going researches in the area of
skeletal tissue adaptation. This includes
responsibility for the assistance of both in vitro and
in vivo studies, numerical modeling of biological
tissue response to physical stimulation, and upkeep of
laboratory computers and equipment. The position will
be directly responsible to two Principle Investigators
in the Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist on-going in vivo studies
Perform in vitro tissue mechanical testing,
including tissue modulus, permeability,
perfusion/conduction, ultrasonic and mechanical
testing and data analysis
Sample preparation including embedding,
histomorphometry, slicing
Imaging processing of the tissue
Numerical modeling of tissue physical environment
using finite element modeling
Support for clinical related studies

Bachelor or higher in Biomedical Engineering,
Bioengineering and related areas. Previous two years
lab experiences are required. In addition, background
in the following areas will be helpful:
biological lab experiences
operating system expertise (UNIX, Windows)
software experience (BASIC, FORTRAN and/or C)
numerical modelling experience
