MOBILITY SUPPORT AND MOTOR CONTROL TRAINING IN STROKE PATIENTS USING ELECTRICAL STIMULATION

University of Twente, Institute for Biomedical Technology (BMTI)

Starting date: as soon as possible

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Electrical Stimulation of muscles is mostly directed towards direct support of function
(FES: Functional Electrical stimulation). However, it has been shown that it can also
contribute to mobility training and reduction of spasm. This project is directed
towards functional support and training of mobility in stroke patients using electrical
stimulation. The functional and training effects of muscle stimulation for improved
push-off, hip and knee flexion and foot lift during the swing phase of gait will be
evaluated and optimized.

Candidates (requirements are specified below) should contact Peter H. Veltink,
sending a short application letter and CV:
Prof. Peter H. Veltink Ph.D.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering / Institute for Biomedical Technology
University of Twente, P.O. Box 217, 7500 AE Enschede, the Netherlands
