Research Engineer/Biomechanist Position

The Center for Advanced Technology in Orthopedics in Houston, Texas has an
immediate opening for an engineer interested in orthopedic biomechanics
research. The laboratory is dedicated to the design and evaluation of
total knee replacement (TKR) systems. Areas of focus include simulation of
prosthetic function in a cadaveric model by measuring and quantifying the
kinematics, contact areas and pressures in the knee joint and fixation of
designed components into their host bones. These experimental studies are
conducted in conjunction with dynamic computer simulation, finite element
analysis and visualization of knee motion before and after TKR during
functional activities. Other lab interests include quantification of the
functional outcome of TKR patients, intraoperative quantification of
surgical performance and analysis of retrieved prosthetic components.

Specific duties include:
Assist in the development, construction and implementation of experimental
testing devices, both hardware and software.
Data collection from numerous sources including a three-dimensional motion
analysis system, force and displacement transducers, a dynamic pressure
measurement system, CT images and video fluoroscopy.
Write data analysis code.
Will have the opportunity to work with other engineers, technicians,
medical students, residents, fellows, and clinical faculty.

The desired candidate should have a BS degree in mechanical engineering
with knowledge and experience in research design and analysis and an
interest in orthopedic biomechanics. Experience with Matlab and C/C++
programming required. Knowledge and experience with mechanical equipment
and electronics is highly advantageous.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Qualified
applicants should send a cover letter, and resume or cv to:
