Endowed Chair Position in Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University invites
nominations and applications for an endowed position, the ĆAlden J. Laborde
Professor of Biomedical Engineering,Ļ that will be available beginning July
1, 2001.

This endowed chair, newly dedicated to the Department of Biomedical
Engineering, will allow us to add breadth and depth to our existing research
and teaching activities in biomechanics, biomaterials, bioelectricity and
bioelectonics, cell and tissue engineering, and design. Strategic growth
areas that have been targeted by the department include polymeric
biomaterials, experimental electrophysiology, biotransport, and designčand
we especially encourage applications from candidates with interests in one
of these areas.

The department, founded in 1977, presently has 12 full-time faculty members,
an ABET accredited undergraduate program with approximately 175
undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students. Candidates should be
established leaders in their field, with a record of research and teaching
accomplishments that would make them eligible for appointment as a full
Professor in Biomedical Engineering.

We plan to begin interviews with the top candidates by January 15, 2001.
However, the search will continue until the position is filled.
