View Full Version : Polygon data wanted

I am currently preparing the third edition of my textbook, "Gait analysis:
an introduction".
I would like to include with the book a CD-ROM, prepared in Polygon, with a
complete analysis of a genuine patient. Oxford Metrics approve of the
idea, but tell me I must find my own patient! Since my lab is being
relocated (for the second time!) I cannot generate my own data, so I am
looking for a Polygon user who would like to collaborate. Here is the plan:
A clinical patient (preferably a typical case of something common, like
cerebral palsy) will agree to have their data used in this way - their name
can be withheld, but we will need to use their clinical information, and
their image on video. They will not be paid for their participation.
The collaborating lab's Vicon system will be used to collect the usual
kinetic/kinematic data, with multi-channel EMG, and synchronized
anteroposterior and lateral video.
The data will be processed and made available on the CD, together with the
"run-time" version of Polygon.
An assessment will be included of the patient's medical condition and gait
data, including recommendations for treatment. It would be sufficient for
the "local expert(s)" to provide this, but I think it would add to the
teaching value if this was augmented by making it the "case of the week" on
the CGA (clinical gait analysis) list, and to add suggestions provided by
those who participate in any discussion.
The participating lab would be acknowledged (and discreetly advertised) in
the book, on the CD-ROM label and within the data, but they would not be
paid for their participation - this book is NOT a big money-maker!
It might also be worthwhile to make the data available on the Internet -
this could be discussed. It could be done at one of the following sites:
the book publisher (Butterworth-Heinemann), Oxford Metrics, my University,
or the participating lab.
Please contact me if you are interested, and if you are an existing Polygon
user. Sorry - I can't supply it for you!
Many thanks!
