'Virtual Environments in Medicine and Psychiatry'
VVECC meeting at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
on Tuesday 12th December 2000

Registrations are invited for the above meeting of the Visualization and
Virtual Environments Community Club.

The use of virtual environments has the potential to transform all aspects
of healthcare. Typical application areas include: training of clinical
procedures on virtual patients, treatment of phobias, rehabilitation,
patient education, telemedicine, and pre-operative planning. There is much
research ongoing in all of these areas, and commercial applications are
beginning to appear. This VVECC event offers an opportunity to learn about
the current state-of-the-art for the use of virtual environments in medicine
and healthcare, and highlights many of the research issues and problems
being addressed.

The meeting will be chaired jointly by Dr Nigel John (University of
Manchester) and Prof Mel Slater (University College London). The speakers
will include Dr Andy Dobrzeniecki (University of Copenhagen), Prof Bob Stone
(MUSE Virtual Presence), Dr Sean Mackay (Imperial College School of
Medicine), Prof Gordon Clapworthy (De Montfort University), Prof Larry
Hodges (Georgia Tech, USA) and Prof David Clark (Institute of Psychiatry,
Kings College London). We acknowledge the financial support of SGI at this
meeting, which will be of interest to both healthcare professionals and
computer scientists.

Full details of the meeting (speakers, abstracts and electronic
registration) can be found at:

The closing date for registration is 28th November.
