Staff Research Assistant II
Berkeley Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory
University of California at Berkeley

We have an exciting opening for a full time research assistant in the
Berkeley Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory, housed in the Department of
Mechanical
Engineering at UC Berkeley. The laboratory is an active environment of
students, post-docs, staff, and faculty having a research emphasis on a
variety of bone biomechanics problems, including osteoporosis, aging, and
design of bone-implant systems. An integral aspect of this effort is a
strong collaboration with the medical school at UCSF. We are now seeking a
full time staff researcher to join our team, play an integral role in this
research, and contribute to the ongoing development of the laboratory.

Duties:
Perform biomechanical testing of bone material and whole bones for ongoing
NIH grants; prepare specimens from cadaveric material and assess after
biomechanical testing; assist in daily oversight of laboratory. Work with
students, postdocs, and faculty.

Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or equivalent.
Experience in PC and data acquisition, and machine shop techniques. Ability
to communicate effectively and work with individuals from a variety of
technical backgrounds. Must be independent and well organized. Knowledge of
MTS, Instron, or similar material testing systems an advantage but not
required.

Compensation;
100% career position. Salary in range $32,048-$48,179 commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits including health,
dental, vision, and legal insurance. Savings and retirement programs
including Tax Deferred options. Fifteen vacation and twelve sick days
annually.
