ISB-AWARDS & ISB2001-ZURICH-AWARDS



GENERAL INFORMATION
During the ISB2001 Congress participants have the possibility to win
scientific awards, sponsored to
recognise outstanding scientific contributions in the field of biomechanics.
There are two main
categories of awards, the ISB-Awards and the ISB2001-Zurich-Awards.
Additional details regarding
the ISB-Awards can be found on the ISB homepage
(http://isb.ri.ccf.org/awards.html).

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Basic requirement for all candidates is the online submission of abstracts
until January 15, 2001.
Additionally, all candidates have to submit a two-page abstract in
pdf-format to the Congress Office by
April 30, 2001 (exception: nominees for the Clinical Biomechanics Award have
to submit a full length
paper according to the guidelines of the journal).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application for awards cannot be done during the abstract submission
process. For award application
please send an email to the Congress Office (isb2001@biomech.mat.ethz.ch)
containing the award
name, author's name and abstract title (exception: candidates for the
Promising Young Scientist
Award have to apply directly to the Jury Chairman Stuart McGill). Deadline
for the award application is
January 15, 2001.

NOTIFICATION OF NOMINEES
Notification of nominees will be done until May 31, 2001 (exception:
nominees for the Clinical
Biomechanics Award are notified until February 28, 2001).


ISB-AWARDS


Young Investigator Awards (Oral & Poster)

Goal: to recognise two outstanding young scientists
Requirements: first author of submitted abstract, maximum age of
35 at first day of
congress, major contribution to the presented
research
Application: January 15, 2001 application email to Congress
Office
Selection Process: abstracts are ranked by independent reviewers; top
ranked abstracts
have to be personally presented in final round
(whether oral or poster)
Jury: appointed by the ISB Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 500 plus reimbursement of congress fee
Sponsors: Journal of Biomechanics, Elsevier Science Ltd. (best
oral presentation)
International Society of Biomechanics (best poster
presentation)
Award Presentation: Closing Ceremony, Friday, July 13


Clinical Biomechanics Award

Goal: to recognise outstanding scientific work related to
a clinical question
containing biomechanical analysis pertaining to the
clinical problem
Requirements: not member of the ISB Executive Council
Application: January 15, 2001 application email to Congress
Office
Selection Process: abstracts are ranked by independent reviewers; 5 top
ranked abstracts
are nominated and have to submit a full length paper
prepared according
to the guidelines of Clinical Biomechanics until
April 30, 2001
Jury: appointed by the ISB Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 750 plus reimbursement of congress fee
Sponsor: Clinical Biomechanics, Elsevier Science Ltd.
Award Presentation: after Award Lecture, Friday, July 13


Promising Young Scientist Award

Goal: to recognise superior research indicative of future
promise
Requirements: ISB member, at a relatively early stage of his or
her scientific careers
in Biomechanics, maximum 5 years post PhD at first
day of congress
Application: January 15, 2001 to Jury Chairman Stuart McGill:
Submission of full curriculum vitae, two first
author full articles in peer-
reviewed journals, interpretative summaries of each
article
Jury: appointed by the ISB Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 1500 for travel costs plus reimbursement of
congress fee if
presenting his/her work at the ISB2001 congress
Sponsor: Peak Performance Technologies, Inc.

ISB2001-Zurich-Awards


Scherb Award

Goal: to recognise outstanding biomechanical research in
the area of human
locomotion with emphasis on clinical application
Application: January 15, 2001 application email to Congress

Selection Process: abstracts are ranked by independent scientists; top
ranked abstracts
have to be personally presented in final round
Jury: appointed by the ISB2001-Zurich-Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 1500
Sponsors: ISB2001, Ares-Serono SA, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG,
Novartis Pharma AG

Foot Biomechanics Award

Goal: to recognise outstanding research related to foot
biomechanics
Application: January 15, 2001 application email to Congress

ranked abstracts
have to be personally presented in final round
Jury: appointed by the ISB2001-Zurich-Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 1000

Asia Award

Goal: to recognise the best Asian paper with outstanding
biomechanical
research in any of the specified topics of the
congress
Requirements: author has to be of Asian origin
Application: January 15, 2001 application email to Congress

ranked abstracts
have to be personally presented in final round
Jury: appointed by the ISB2001-Zurich-Awards Committee
Reward: US$ 1000

Film/VTR Award

Goal: to recognise the best paper based on Film/VTR
analysis
