The Sensory Motor Performance Program (SMPP) at the Rehabilitation
Institute of Chicago (RIC) is devoted to the study of musculoskeletal,
neuromuscular and sensory disorders that are associated with abnormal
control of posture and movement. Faculty members have appointments in the
Northwestern University Medical School and the Northwestern University
Engineering School. Approximately thirty-five research staff -- including
post-doctoral research associates, graduate students, and support staff --
make up a unique team of physicians, engineers, physiologists, and
occupational & physical therapists for the study of motor and sensory
dysfunctions. Our work, based on studies with patients at the
Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, as well as computer and mathematical
models, is internationally renowned in the fields of biomechanics,
neurophysiology, and rehabilitation research.

SMPP is a part of the Rehabilitation Institute Research Corporation, the
research arm of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. It is academically
affiliated with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at
Northwestern University Medical School. Many members of our staff are
affiliated with the departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,
Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physiology, Physical
Therapy, the Institute for Neuroscience and other departments at
Northwestern University and in the Chicago area.

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associates to join our
studies on motor control. Our research involves recruitment and mechanical
function of single motor units.

The applicant will be expected to develop his or her own line of research
and begin to seek other funding within the first year.

The applicant will benefit from the mentorship of W. Z. Rymer, C. J.
Heckman, and A. D. Kuo (of University of Michigan) and F. A. Mussa-Ivaldi,
all established leaders in the field.
