Congress : General Information July 4th- 6th 2001, Milan,
Italy

Introduction
The VIII International Symposium on Computer Simulation in Biomechanics
(ISCSB-VIII) will be held at Politecnico di Milano, Milano, Italy, from the
4th to the 6th of July 2001. This Symposium, organized by the ISB Technical
Group on Computer Simulation (TGCS), is a satellite event of the XVIII
Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) which takes
place at the ETH Zurich, July 8-13, 2001.

Scope
The symposium will be a scientific and technical meeting for investigators
and students in all areas of computer simulation in biomechanics,
especially: human movement, motor control, and robotics related to
biomechanics.

Congress venue
The symposium will be held in Milano at Politecnico di Milano. The
university is five minutes walk distance from the metropolitana
(underground) green line "Piola" station. Easy connection with railway
stations and airports lines. Milano is connected with ZURICH by train:
several daily connection (Milano-Zurich is about a 3-4 hours trip).

Congress reserved Hotel is ten minutes walk distance from Nord station and
Cadorrna underground station (red and green line)
Further information about this topic is contained in the "accommodation and
travel" page.

Symposium format
Following the tradition of the TGCS symposia, each presenter, after the oral
presentation, has the opportunity to give an interactive demonstration of
the software produced. In order to facilitate the debate (avoiding parallel
sections) only a limited number of about 30-40 selected papers will be
accepted for presentation. Priority will be given to papers accompanied by a
computer demonstration.
Computers will be also accessible for informal exchange of information
between participants.

Young Investigator Award
At the 8th International Symposium on Computer Simulation in Biomechanics,
which is the continuation of the conference that Andrzej Komor began in
Warsaw in 1985, the Andrzej Komor New Investigator Award will again be
presented to honor the best paper by a new investigator. The award will
consist of a $500 prize and a certificate. The competition will be judged by
an ad hoc committee of the Technical Group on Computer Simulation at the
Symposium. In order to give as much exposure as possible, the award will
also be announced in the larger ISB Congress, at either the General Assembly
or the Banquet. To be eligible for the award the new investigator must be
either a student or have obtained the graduate degree recently and he or she
must present the paper.
