Position Open: Director of Spine Research: Institute of Spinal Disorders,
Houston, Texas

The Research Laboratory of the Institute of Spinal Disorders performs basic
science and clinical research studies involving the basic anatomy and
biomechanics of the spine, and the development of innovative technologies
for the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders. The laboratory is
equipped with extensive computational and mechanical testing resources.

The Director of Spine Research supervises the activities of the Spine
Research Laboratory in collaboration with the Spine faculty of the Barnhart
Department of Orthopedic Surgery of Baylor College of Medicine. He/ she
reports to The Director of the Institute (Dr S. I. Esses), and the Director
of Research, Baylor Department of Orthopedic Surgery (Dr. Philip C Noble).

The Director works with a team of clinicians who have high-volume clinical
practices. Many of these clinicians have made substantial research
contributions and maintain an active interest in the research program.
Additional responsibilities include participation in the design and
completion of research projects performed by orthopedic residents and

The Director will also have the opportunity to collaborate with several
other highly productive researchers working within the 6 laboratories
affiliated with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

The Director will have an academic appointment with Baylor College of
Medicine consistent with his/her education and previous accomplishments.
Support is provided to allow the Director to pursue independent research
interests and he/she will be encouraged to obtain supplementary funding from
private and federal sources. A competitive salary and benefit package is
