BIOMECHANICS AND BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING


** Medical device modelling and design: design/ analysis/
optimisation of medical devices, experimental validation, prediction
of short & long term tissue interactions


** Motion analysis and simulation: measurement and analysis of human
and animal movement, estimation of bone positions during movement,
simulation and modelling of the musculoskeletal system, impact &
injury biomechanics


** Cellular biomechanics: bone remodelling, mechano-transduction,
tissue engineering, implant - bone interface analysis, wound and
fracture healing, hierarchical methods


** Soft tissues: Analysis, material models and testing of soft
tissue, skin, ligaments, tendons, muscles


** Poroelasticity: Fluid transport, modelling of porous media,
coupled mechanical/fluid/species transport in biological tissue


** Medical computing: medical imaging including image based surgical
devices (tools and implants), CT/X ray/MRI/ultrasound, scanning
techniques for tissue characterisation, medical informatics and
virtual reality systems, computer aided surgery


** Biofluids: CFD, blood flow, fluid/ structure interactions,
cardiovascular mechanics


** Damage and fracture mechanics: damage accumulation, fatigue, life
prediction, computational fracture mechanics


** Computational methods in biomechanics: solvers, algorithms,
parallel processing, boundary element and other methods



DENTAL BIOMECHANICS AND MATERIALS

** Modelling and response of tissue and materials: dental restorative
materials, implants, cements and ceramics, tissue response to loads
and materials, wear of occlusal surfaces


** Craniofacial mechanics: jaw movement relationship to food particle
flow, skeletal pattern and masticatory function, modelling of
TMJ/occlusal behaviour, oral/maxillofacial reconstruction procedures


** Orthodontic appliances: modelling of appliances/brackets, material
laws for the periodontal ligament, orthodontic tooth movement, shape
memory materials, novel attachment systems


** Reconstruction techniques: rapid prototyping, patient dependent
modelling, image analysis and computer assisted surgical techniques
