Position: Biomechanics Research Associate
Location: Human Performance Laboratory, Des Moines University-Osteopathic
Medical Center, Des Moines, IA

The Human Performance Lab at Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical
Center (http:\\www.dmu.edu\hpl) has an opening for an individual with a
background in biomechanics or biomedical engineering. The position involves
performing the daily clinical and research operations of the lab, and as
such requires a highly motivated, independent individual. The ideal
candidate will possess experience in a gait laboratory environment, as well
as programming experience (MATLAB and Labview). The position will involve
motion analysis collection conducted on a variety of patients with
neuromuscular or orthopaedic dysfunctions, as well as participation on a
variety of research investigations. The applicant will be encouraged to
develop research interests in collaboration with others. In addition,
teaching opportunities will exist within the various medical programs on

The newly designed Human Performance Laboratory is part of Des Moines
University Clinics on the campus of Des Moines University. The lab offers
clinical services to the community, as well as maintaining an active
research line. Current lab equipment includes: an 8-camera Motion Analysis
RealTime system; 3 AMTI forceplates; 16-channel Motion Lab Systems EMG;
multiple uniaxial accelerometers; SIMM software; electrogoniometer; Neurocom
Balance Master; Cybex 6000 system; and Tek-scan in shoe pressure system.
The applicant will be responsible for the maintenance of this equipment.

MS degree in biomechanics or biomedical engineering with experience in
research methods (motion analysis, force plates, EMG) involved with human
motion investigations. Two years of gait lab experience is preferred. BS
degree with 3+ years of gait lab experience will be considered. Competent
computer programming ability (MATLAB, Labview), as well as strong written
and interpersonal skills
