Position: Biomechanics
Contractual Period: Academic Year (9 months)
Salary: Negotiable and competitive
Rank: Assistant Professor (visiting, renewable)
Starting Date: August 27, 2001

QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Earned doctorate with emphasis in Biomechanics or movement science. (2)
Active research record related to human performance, injury mechanisms, or
related area. (3) Post-doctoral appointment and extramural funding
experience desirable. (4) Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
(5) Demonstrated commitment to related scholarly/professional organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
(1) Instruct physical therapy students in the area of Biomechanics. (2)
Direct and advise student research projects. (3) Direct motor function
laboratory. (4) Develop and maintain an active research program; seek
extramural funding. (5) Engage in university and scholarly/professional
service activities.

OVERVIEW:
The Walsh University Physical Therapy curriculum, an intensive two- year
program including summers, leads to a Master of Science Degree in Physical
Therapy. Required coursework builds upon a foundation of basic sciences and
problem-solving skills. Students gain knowledge and develop skills in
teaching and scientific inquiry as well as physical therapy patient
diagnosis and intervention. Students are required to perform original
research and present their work prior to graduation.

Walsh University's Motor Function Laboratory measures many aspects of human
movement. The laboratory supports both student and faculty research in
addition to providing an important teaching tool to facilitate student
learning. The laboratory houses state-of-the-art equipment including:
VICON Motion System for kinematics analysis; Two Force Platforms;
Electrogoniometers; Eight channel EMG System (MyoSystem 1200, Noraxon, Inc);
Foot Switch (NorSwitch, Noraxon, Inc); Uni-directional force sensors and
six-component force/torque Sensors; Data acquisition boards from National
Instrument, TX; RSscan pressure measurement system; LiteGait weight bearing
system; Treadmill; LabVIEW and Matlab for software development; Personal
computers for data collection and processing.

This appointment is designed to allow the successful candidate to (a)
Provide academic instruction and professional guidance to student physical
therapists, and (b) Collaborate with colleagues located at regional
universities and medical centers.
