Position Announcement

The Gait Study Center at the Temple University School of Podiatric
Medicine (TUSPM) currently has an opening available for the position of
Chief Engineer. The Gait Study Center is a laboratory with recognized
expertise in foot and ankle biomechanics as related to the structure and
function of the lower extremity. The laboratory is comprised of
state-of-the-art instrumentation and computers dedicated to the
quantification of human posture and locomotion. Job functions for the
position of Chief Engineer are as follows:

* Assist in the design and implementation of various research protocols
involving human posture and locomotion, including the development of new
instrumentation, pertinent parameters of biomechanical function, and
novel data analysis methods.
* Maintain and troubleshoot all instrumentation within the laboratory;
includes two Kistler force plates, two Musgrave pressure plates, a
Parotec in-shoe pressure measuring insole, a five camera Vicon 370 3D
kinematic system, a Gaitmat II, 10 channels of surface electromyography,
and six accelerometers.
* Supervise an electromechanical technician in the repair of current
instrumentation and in the implementation of new designs.
* Perform biomechanical data collection and analysis on human subjects.
* Train and mentor podiatric medical students, residents, engineering
graduate students, and related health care professional students at the
Gait Study Center.
* Provide technical assistance to faculty and students in their
research.
* Assist with writing abstracts, journal articles, grants, and final
reports
* Present research at national and international scientific conferences

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
* MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomechanical or Biomedical
Engineering
* Previous experience working in a gait/motion laboratory with human
subjects
* Previous experience with calibration and maintenance of biomedical
instrumentation
* Excellent oral/written communication skills
* Excellent computer skills (knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in
both Windows and Macintosh operating systems)
* Previous experience with LabView and Matlab a plus
* Previous experience with SIMM, SDFAST, and Dynamics Pipeline a plus
* Previous experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Abaqus a
plus
* Interest in contributing to the state-of-the-art in lower extremity
biomechanics
The Chief Engineer is a full time faculty position appointed at the
level of instructor within TUSPM. The salary range is $45,000 to
$55,000 pending experience level of the candidate. Temple University
