Dear all,

I am in the fortunate position of looking for a new boss! We have a vacancy for a Chair (full
Professor/Assoc. Prof.) of Biomedical Engineering. Here is the advertisement...

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Catholic University of America (CUA) invites
applications for a senior level position as department chair beginning Fall Semester 2002. This
person will have the responsibilities to: lead in the development and growth of both undergraduate
and graduate academic programs of the highest quality; recruit and retain high quality students and
faculty; lead efforts to secure extramural funding for the department; and develop and foster strong
connections to alumni, government and industry. An earned Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or a
closely related field, evidence of the ability to develop and sustain an externally funded research
program and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. CUA is a
research-oriented institution having programs leading to Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees.

By way of a little background, apart from myself (with interests in biomechanics, gait and rehab
engineering) our faculty has expertise in rehab robotics, home care and telerehabilitation,
cardio-pulmonary biomechanics, vestibuo-occular control, circulatory dynamics and air pollution. We
have close links with the other engineering (civil, electrical and mechancial) departments here at
CUA. You are welcome to discuss the position with myself or Mark, and we look forward to receiving
