Biomechanician/kinesiologist - Edmonton
Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital

The Syncrude Gait and Balance Centre provides assessment and treatment of gait and balance disorders by a professional, dedicated team of bioengineers, physiotherapists and audiologists. The Centre is one of the specialized services supported by the Rehabilitation Technology Service. Other services include the scoliosis clinic and the assistive devices service. We are currently seeking a full-time bioengineer or kinesiologist to provide and oversee the non medical services of the Gait & Balance Centre.

Clinical Service Leader

Your primary assignment will be to oversee the daily operation of the Syncrude Gait and Balance Centre. This will include appropriate deployment of staff and equipment, monitoring the allotted budget and contributing to the clinical assessment of the patients/clients referred to the Gait & Balance Centre. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, provide consultation regarding assessments performed in the gait laboratory component of the Centre and be familiar with the dynamic assessment of balance disorders. You will lead team conferences, supervise students placed in the Centre and participate in the development and evaluation of the Centre. Additional duties include working with the Medical Leader to promote and develop research within the Centre.

A Masters degree in an engineering discipline or kinesiology is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in gait and/or balance and who are familiar with the associated technology. Five years in a clinical or associated area is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with other professionals in the team management of patients is required. Ability to manage the demands of a tertiary level health care facility is required.
