The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh is
pleased to announce multiple tenure-stream positions. The department is
located directly across from and interacts closely with the University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center, rated nationally in the top 10 in NIH
funding, including 8 Bioengineering Research Grants awarded to
Bioengineering faculty in 2001 alone. Currently our very active
educational program offers BS, MS, PhD, and MD/PhD degrees and several
certificate programs. Recent research additions to the department
include an endowment for the McGinnis Chair in Bioengineering and the
development of the Swanson Center for Product Innovation funded in part
by the Keck Foundation. In addition, the newly formed McGowan Institute
for Regenerative Medicine (www.mirm.pitt.edu) offers many research
opportunities in the areas of tissue/organ engineering. Bioengineering

programs can be found at www.engr.pitt.edu/bioengineering.

We are seeking individuals to enhance our core departmental faculty.
Expertise areas of particular interest include:

Cellular biomechanics - Areas of interest include mechanical behavior of
intact cells, cell/extracellular matrix interactions,
mechanotransduction, and related areas. It is anticipated that this
individual would link with the extensive ongoing tissue and organ level
biomechanics in the cardiovascular and orthopedic areas, which also
include significant efforts in tissue engineering.

BioMEMS - Areas of interest include biological applications of
nanomechanics, biosensors, and neurological stimulation and control.

Biotechnology - Areas of interest include stem cell isolation and
characterization, gene or drug delivery, and related biotechnology

Appointments will be made at a level commensurate with the
qualifications of the candidate, i.e., at the assistant, associate, or
full professorial level. Electronic applications are strongly
encouraged. A complete dossier, including CV, personal statement, and
names of at least three references should be sent to:
