Director, Coach Michael W. Krzyzewski Human Performance Laboratory
Division of Orthopaedic Surgery
Duke University Medical Center

The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery at Duke
University Medical Center is seeking a individual to fill the
position of Director of the Coach Michael W. Krzyzewski Human
Performance Laboratory (K-Lab). The appointment will be a faculty
position with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The mission of the K-Lab is to improve our understanding and
prevention of athletic injury. All of the activities of the K-Lab
have at their root the goal of improving human performance and
minimizing injury risk, and where necessary decreasing the
convalescence time from sustained injury. The K-Lab Director will be
expected to develop an independently funded research program that
integrates with the currently ongoing research programs in the
Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. S/he will work closely with the
Director of the Duke Sports Medicine Center
(http://www.dukesportsmedicine.org) and work with him to oversee the
scientific and budgetary aspects of the laboratory. The K-Lab
director will be responsible for overseeing laboratory research,
publication of journal articles, acquiring external funding, training
of students and fellows, and supervision of laboratory staff.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Biomechanical Engineering, or
a related field is required, with demonstrated leadership skills and
experience in acquiring external funding from federal and industrial
sources.

Facilities/Equipment: The Coach Michael W. Krzyzewski Human
Performance Laboratory is part of the recently renovated Finch-Yeager
Sports Medicine Building at Duke University Medical Center. The
laboratory is equipped state-of-the-art equipment for motion analysis
and human performance testing, including two 3D motion analysis video
systems, a sixteen channel EMG telemetry system, two in-ground force
plates and a 75+ foot test track, a BIODEX Isokinetic System, and
other assorted testing equipment.
