The Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia invites
applications for the position of Director, Biomedical Engineering
Initiative. The Biomedical Engineering Initiative will include
multidisciplinary graduate programs at the masters and doctoral levels that
are expected to be offered starting September 2003. It will involve strong
collaboration with other Faculties, e.g. Medicine, Dentistry and Science.

The successful candidate should be qualified for appointment at the rank of
Associate Professor or Professor in one of the Departments of Chemical and
Biological Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering or Metals and Materials Engineering and hold a Ph.D. in
Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field; to have strong leadership
capabilities; to have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and/or
professional practice. The successful candidate is expected to have or seek
registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia. Experience in
industry is preferred, but not essential. He or she will be expected to
develop the Biomedical Engineering Initiative by building upon the faculty's
existing strengths; to build strong collaborative relationships across the
University, its teaching hospitals and its external partners, including
education and research organizations and funding agencies in Canada and
abroad.
