Sports Biomechanics Postdoctoral Fellowship
Hospital for Special Surgery
(Affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital
& the Weill Medical College of Cornell University)

The Sports Medicine Service and the Laboratory for Biomedical Mechanics and
Biomaterials are developing a full-time position in musculoskeletal research
with an emphasis on joint mechanics. The first two years are funded as a
postdoctoral research fellowship with the expectation that upon completion
the individual will become a full-time member of the research professional
staff. The fellowship represents the commitment of the Hospital to develop
highly motivated trainees with basic science education and research skills
necessary for a successful career in academic orthopaedics and related
fields. It is structured to enhance the individual's research and grant
writing skills.
The fellowship will involve the mechanical testing and assessment of
joint performance through cadaver models, human subject testing, and
analytical modeling. The Hospital=s Research Division provides a setting
for collaborative efforts with other laboratories, including clinical
research, outcome studies, tissue engineering, mineralized tissue research,
and immunology & inflammation. Core facilities include molecular biology,
flow cytometry, comparative studies, and the NIH-sponsored Core Center for
Skeletal Integrity (mechanical testing, infrared imaging, analytical
microscopy, and biostatistics). These and all other clinical and research
facilities at the Hospital and its affiliated institutions are available to
the trainee.

Selection into the training program is on the basis of prior academic and
research performance, recommendation letters, and possibly an interview.
Criteria for selection include high motivation for research and commitment
to an academic career.

Applicants should provide a curriculum vita (email preferred) and three
references or recommendation letters to:
