View Full Version : Non-linear elasticity of cortical bone

Dear all,

I am working on FE modelling of bone. I note that Yamada (1970) finds the
compressive modulus of cortical bone to be around one-third of its tensile
modulus. Is this data to be relied upon?

I haven't found any literature which directly disproves this non-linear
elastic behaviour. However, many authors seem to refer to only one
longitudinal Young's modulus. Is cortical bone really this non-linear?

Many thanks to anyone who can help me.
