View Full Version : Contact & indentation analysis of football boot studs ofdifferent designs

Hi there, I am studying for an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems at Teesside University in the UK and I'm undergoing my final dissertation.

My area of research intends to look at reducing serious injury of soft tissues that occur following over-the-top tackles on the football (soccer) field. In order to do so, I have decided to analyse of studs (cleats) of different designs and their related contact and indentation behaviour on a soft tissue model using Finite Element Analysis. The software that I have access to is IDEAS (I am assuming this package is capable of handling this sort of thing).

I wonder whether or not some sort of approximate linear elastic material modelling, which IDEAS should be capable of doing, would be sufficient in providing me with data on whether or not, for instance, one stud design imposes lower stresses than another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
