Research and Development of Systems for Paraplegic Cycling: improving
health after spinal cord injury.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant & PhD Studentship
Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering
Centre for Exercise Science and Medicine
University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK

Two new research positions are available: one is a post-doctoral
research assistant in engineering; the second is a PhD studentship for
an exercise physiologist. Both posts are funded by the Engineering and
Physical Sciences Research Council, and are available for three years.

The project will develop systems which will allow people with a spinal
cord injury to cycle, via functional electrical stimulation of the
paralysed leg muscles. A health study will also be carried out, which
will evaluate the effects of this exercise modality on
cardio-respiratory fitness and general health.
