"Normal and Pathological Spine Kinematics"

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Basic and Clinical
Biomechanics Group at the M.E. Müller Institute for Biomechanics,
University of Bern. The group comprises a multi-disciplinary research team
focusing on spine biomechanics, with research in the areas of implant
evaluation, computational biomechanics (finite element analysis) and the
development of new surgical techniques. The successful applicant will join
a project developing new methods for the in vitro and in vivo measurement
of spine kinematics and the application of multi-variate statistical
methods to the classification of measured motion patterns.

The position is available starting Nov.1. Candidates with an MSc or
equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials
Science or a closely related field should apply. Experience with any of the
following would be a distinct advantage: mechanical testing equipment and
in vitro biomechanical testing methods, three-dimensional kinematics
theory, RSA or other quantitative radiographic techniques, video
fluoroscopy, image processing, CAD/FEM and computer programming. A
competitive stipend is offered and will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience.

Interested candidates should send their resumes with references and school
transcripts to:
