Position: POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN MUSCULOSKELETAL SCIENCE
Organization: Center for Implant Biomechanics and Biomaterials
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hannover Medical School, MHH
Location: Hannover, Germany

Description:

Applications are invited to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship position
within the Center for Implant Biomechanics and Biomaterials in the
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hannover Medical School,
Hannover,
Germany.

The main topic of research is focused on the Implant-Bone interface of
Endoprotheses and osteosynthesis implants. Specific projects involve
molecular stimulation
of bone integration and fracture healing, surface coating, molecular
stimulation
of bone integration, resorbable implant technology as well as related
enoprosthetic
joint kinematics.

The candidate will be part of a collaborative group of investigators
supported by the
newly funded collaborative research center "SFB 955 Medical Technology"
(Sonderforschungsbereich 599). This center unites institutes and
researchers with expertise
in the areas of: biomechanics, computational mechanics, biomaterials,
animal models, anatomy,
cell biology, histology, biochemistry and molecular biology.

Duties and responsibilities, which are to be performed under minimal
supervision, will include:
1) conducting animal experiments, mechanical tests on biological tissues
and troubleshooting related experimental problems, 2) acquiring
micro-computed tomography images of biological samples,
performing FEM analyses and developing different problems, 3) analysis of
specimens for histology and biochemistry, 4) preparing manuscripts and
abstracts for publication, and, 5) maintaining accurate and efficient
instrumentation for carrying out the experiments. The main responsibility
of the applicant
will be within the biomechanics section of the center. However, he/she
will also
work in close collaboration with other sections and principal
investigators of the center. The
successful applicant is encouraged to develop projects in his/her own
areas of interest.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Biology
or a medical
or veterinarian degree, or a related field. Research experience in
musculoskeletal
Science is desired. Developed skills in one or more areas of animal
models
on bone implant fixation and fracture healing, bone histology, tissue
mechanics,
and mechanical testing are desirable. Also, experience in molecular
stimulation
of bone remodeling or fracture healing would be interesting. German
language
skills are favorable.
