Dear subscribers,

With the summer vacation approaching, some of you may be setting
up an automatic e-mail reply. Please consider Biomch-L when you do
that. Attached below is a message I send out several times each month
to all of those who send automatic replies to the author of each
Biomch-L posting. This keeps the number of offenders down, but there
are always 4-10 new "auto-repliers" at each time who are not aware that
this is happening. So here is an attempt at prevention.

Please read the message below.

Dear Biomch-L subscriber,

Please do not send automatic replies to postings from the Biomch-L
mailing list. You may not be aware that these automatic replies
are being sent from you to every person who posts a message to the
Biomch-L list.

Biomch-L has about 5000 subscribers, so if just 1% of them are
sending automatic replies, the author of each posting will receive
50! This amounts to a substantial inconvenience for those who
contribute to Biomch-L.

It is probably possible to reconfigure your out-of-office setup so that
it ignores Biomch-L postings. Biomch-L postings can be recognized
automatically: they all have the following lines in the message header:

To: BIOMCH-L@NIC.SURFNET.NL
Subject: [BIOMCH-L] .....

Thanks.
