Interested in the Science of Tennis?

With the British grass season upon us, some frequently asked questions are:

* How does the pace of a grass tennis court compare to other surface
types?
* How does the modern racket affect the playing styles of today's
game?
* Is there a need to address the speed of the game at the professional
level?
* What is the future of line calling systems?

To find out the answers to these and many other questions relating to the
science of tennis, visit the 2nd ITF International Congress on Tennis
Science & Technology, to be held in London from 28-30 July 2003 to see
presentations, demonstrations and debate on topics related to Equipment,
Sports Science, The Game, and Court and Facilities.

An intriguing opening keynote address entitled "Properties of tennis
equipment: balls that bite, rackets that don't vibrate and strings don't
make any difference" will be presented by Prof. Rod Cross of the University
of Sydney and co-author of the key science textbook 'The Physics and
Technology of Tennis'.

Two unique debates will take place during the Congress, at which delegates
and invited media will be able quiz a panel of distinguished experts with a
wide range of views:

Monday 28 July: Tennis and the modern racket: small is beautiful?

Wednesday 30 July: Automated line calling: "you cannot be serious?"

With delegates from all the major tennis equipment manufacturers already
confirmed, as well as leading sports scientists, tennis researchers and
coaches, the ITF TST Congress will provide a unique forum for the
dissemination of information on technology and science to anyone with an
interest in the sport.
