PhD Research Studentship in Biomechanics/Mechatronics (3 years)

We are currently seeking a postgraduate student to join an interdisciplinary team developing new robotic techniques for the rehabilitation of children with head injury. This work will be based in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering in close collaboration with the Regional Centre for Innovation and Design and the School of Clinical Medical Sciences.

The work, leading to PhD, will involve the design of a haptic system to provide challenging exercise regimes to promote the rehabilitation of arm function, followed by evaluation of its effectiveness and continued development. The project will commence in September 2003.

The successful applicant will have a good honours degree in an Engineering or related discipline and should have an aptitude for working with people with disabilities. The studentship is available to EU citizens and the grant pays 9000 pa plus University fees.
