The European Society of Biomechanics announces the ESB Research Award, the ESB
Clinical Biomechanics Award, the ESB Poster Award and the ESB Travel Grant.

The 9th Meeting of the European Society of Biomechanics is merged with the
Second World Congress of Biomechanics, held in Amsterdam, July 10-15, 1994.
During this congress the usual ESB awards will be presented and a travel grant
is available.

*** ESB Research Award (open to all) ***

This prestigious award is for a full paper, written in the format required by
the Journal of Biomechanics. The award consists of a certificate and ECU 1000.
The awardee will get a waiver of the registration fee for the World Congress.
The paper will be published in the Journal of Biomechanics as an Award Paper.
The award will be presented at the World Congress banquet.
The deadline for submission of the paper (3 copies) is the same as for the World
Congress: November 1, 1993. The paper should be submitted to the chairman of
the selection committee:

Dr. Ivan Hvid
Biomechanics Laboratory
Orthopaedic Hospital
Randersvej 1
8200 Aarhus N
Denmark

In order for the paper to be included in the World Congress, an abstract must be
submitted in the normal way. Notification will be by March 1, 1994.

*** ESB Clinical Biomechanics Award (open to all) ***

The purpose of this award is to encourage the application of biomechanics to
clinical problems. During the abstract review process, an initial selection
will be made. An award committee will then evaluate these papers at the World
Congress. The winner will receive a certificate, ECU 300 and a waiver of the
registration fee. The award will be presented at the World Congress banquet.

*** ESB Poster Award (open to all) ***

This award is to stimulate the quality of the poster presentations. The poster
award committee will consider all posters at the congress and decide on the
basis of clarity of presentation and scientific quality. The winner will receive
a certificate, ECU 300 and a waiver of the registration fee. The award will be
presented at the World Congress banquet.

*** Travel Grant (open to members of the European Society of Biomechanics) ***

A limited number of Travel Grants to attend the World Congress is available. The
grants are awarded to persons under 35 years of age who have demonstrated
interest and ability in biomechanics, with promises of future significant
contributions to biomechanics. Applicants are requested to send a CV, with
copies of abstracts and papers, and a letter of support from a Professor or
Supervisor, together with an estimate of the travel cost. A copy of an abstract
submitted to the World Congress must be submitted also. The grant may be used
for travel only, or for travel as well as accommodation at the time of the
congress. Applications should be send before December 1, 1993 to:
