POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Principal Investigator:
Biomechanics and Motor Control of Gait, Posture and Balance

The VA Rehabilitation R&D Center of Excellence in Functional Electrical
Stimulation ("The Cleveland FES Center") is seeking an energetic young
investigator who is expert in human gait, postural analysis and the neural
control of movement to join the faculty of its Motion Study Laboratory. The
investigator will be an integral member of a research team that is applying
biomedical engineering and control principles to the design of
neuroprostheses for ambulation, standing balance and seated posture after
neurological impairments such as spinal cord injury, stroke or traumatic
brain injury. Applicants should have experience in kinematic and kinetic
data acquisition, EMG signal analysis, and the development and use of
musculoskeletal models in dynamic simulations with specific emphasis in the
areas of posture, locomotion or seating. The successful candidate is
expected to contribute to ongoing projects while developing an innovative
independent research program of his/her own design. Publication of research
results and instruction/guidance of students at Case Western Reserve
University will be required. Candidates must have recently (within the last
4 years) earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience in a clinical gait laboratory setting is highly preferred.
Additional background in FES, control system design, dynamic analysis or
neurophysiology is desirable. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and be
eligible to apply for and receive federal research funding.

The Cleveland FES Center is a multi-institutional research consortium
developing technology to restore function and improve the quality of life
for individuals with disabilities. Consortium members include the
Department of Veterans Affairs, Case Western Reserve University and
MetroHealth Medical Center. Participants include 18 Principal Investigators
and over 60 staff and students working on over 24 related projects. The
Center includes excellent laboratory and clinical facilities and provides a
highly cooperative environment with significant opportunities for
interaction and collaboration with leading researchers in the field. The
position is based at the Motion Study Laboratory, a state-of-the-art
biomechanics research facility for human gait and posture analysis located
in "University Circle", a unique cultural, medical and educational district
that includes the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Natural History
Museum, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens as well as numerous family-friendly
neighborhoods.

Qualified applicants should send their curriculum vitae to Ronald J.
Triolo, Ph.D. c/o Cathy Walker (caw22@po.cwru.edu), Cleveland FES Center,
University West Building Suite 230, 11000 Cedar Avenue, Cleveland OH 44106.
Put "Biomechanics Position" in the subject line.
