University of Nebraska Medical Center
Position Description:
· Assistant Professor, Division of Physical Therapy Education
· 12-month Health Professions appointment, with opportunity to make
application for tenure

· An earned academic doctorate degree is required.
· Licensure as a physical therapist with a minimum of 3 years clinical
experience is preferred.
· Prior academic experience is preferred.
Program Mission and Values
· The mission of the Division is to prepare entry-level, generalist
practitioners, provide professional service, and contribute to the body of
health sciences knowledge.
· The faculty is dedicated to the development of critical thinking
skills, promotion of evidence-based practice, and fostering of educational
excellence and esprit de corps.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· A primary responsibility is to provide instruction in the entry-level
DPT program in the applicant’s areas of expertise, preferably including
instruction in critical evaluation of research and promotion of
evidence-based practice.
· Additional responsibilities include participation in scholarly
activity, and service to the university, the community, and the profession.
Professional Environment:
University: The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is an
academic health sciences center with Colleges of Medicine, Nursing,
Pharmacy, and Dentistry. The mission of UNMC is to improve the health of
Nebraska through premier educational programs, innovative research, the
highest quality patient care, and outreach to underserved populations.
Program: The Division of Physical Therapy Education is an educational
unit within the UNMC College of Medicine. The program recently implemented
a new curriculum leading to the clinical degree, Doctor of Physical Therapy
(DPT), with the first class graduating in May 2004. The program has been
accredited for its entire 30-year history. Further information available

Facilities: The program is housed in the Student Life Center, which
contains program offices, laboratories, the campus fitness facility, the
Physical Activity Research Laboratory (PARL), and the Clinical Movement
Science Laboratory (CMSL). The PARL is equipped to perform metabolic gas
analysis and other measures of physical activity, while the CMSL is
equipped with multi-channel EMG and motion analysis systems, force
platforms and computerized dynamic posturography equipment.
Current areas of research are in the general areas of motor control and
physical activity, including physiological mechanisms of movement or
exercise, health behaviors, development of measurement or diagnostic tools,
and assessing the effectiveness of exercise interventions. Collaborative
research opportunities exist within the program and across the campus.
Location: UNMC is located in Omaha, NE, a dynamic metropolitan area of
700,000 that offers a variety of cultural and sporting events and a cost of
living below the national average. Forbes Magazine recently named Omaha as
one of the top 15 regions in the nation based on both economic and quality
of life factors. Parenting Magazine has named Omaha as one of the top ten
cities in the nation for raising a family.
