"Analysis and optimization of refractive eye surgery"

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Computational
Biomechanics Group at the M.E. Müller Center for Orthopaedic Surgery,
University of Bern. The group is involved in a variety of research and
industry projects where computational methods (mainly non-linear finite
element analysis) are used as tools for design, planning and evaluation
for surgery and surgical instruments. The successful applicant will join a
project-team developing and evaluating surgical instruments for a new
method of refractive eye surgery.

The position is available immediately. Candidates with an MSc or
equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials
Science or a closely related field should apply. Experience with any of
the following would be a distinct advantage: mechanical testing equipment
and procedures, CAD and finite element analysis. A competitive stipend is
offered and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
