Develop and lead research projects in impact biomechanics, crash/injury
research, and vehicle ergonomics that use both experimental and
analytic tools to study human tolerance and response to impact loading
and the physical interaction of occupants with the vehicle interior
during normal operation conditions. Contribute to the intellectual
advancement of the Biosciences Division through these research efforts,
and through collaborations with other researchers in Biosciences and
other institutions. Develop personal competencies and research ideas
which are likely to attract sponsorship; contribute to the preparation
of proposals and/or lead individual proposals; serve as principal
investigator and co-principal investigator on impact biomechanics
research projects; and participate directly in designing, setting up,
and conducting research experiments and methods, and developing and
using computer models in support of experimental research, as well as
to address research objectives directly. Analyze results from
experimental testing and computer simulations, and interpret and report
research methods and findings; manage research assistants, technicians,
and graduate students; work with the Division administrative staff to
track cost and time expenditures on projects and develop cost of
proposed research projects; produce research reports and associated
deliverables which satisfy contract requirements and maximize the yield
in new knowledge; prepare/present papers and journal articles;
teach/supervise graduate students, interact with teaching faculty as
appropriate; participate in educational or scholarly activities;
participate in professional organizations through membership/committee

NOTE: This position is posted as a Research Investigator/Assistant
Research Scientist. The rank of the selected candidate will depend on

Ph.D. in engineering or the physical sciences. One to three years
experience conducting biomechanics research using experimental,
analytical, and statistical tools to study human kinematics and
kinetics. Experience in impact/injury biomechanics is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts both
verbally and in writing.
