The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace
Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking
applicants for a Senior Research Scientist (Biomechanical) position.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in biomechanical or mechanical engineering or
a related field with a strong background in experimental testing of both
biological and non-biological materials, including the design and
construction of test fixtures, data acquisition, and experimental design.
In addition, the ideal candidate would have a strong background in
statistics, constitutive modeling, and automobile safety. Candidates should
have a proven record of proposal, report, and journal writing. Duties
include management of all aspects of experimental test programs, supervision
of the research activities of undergraduate and graduate students, and
scholarly writing. Prior experience in academia is preferred, but
applicants with strong, research-oriented industrial experience will be
considered. Applicants are advised that the position involves the use of

a related field in engineering. In addition, the ideal candidate would have
a strong background in vehicular-pedestrian impacts and associated injuries
and in experimental testing of both biological and non-biological materials.
Candidates should have a proven record of proposal, report, and journal
writing, and be experienced in the use of multi-body software (MADYMO) and
FE modeling (LS-DYNA). Duties include management of all aspects of
experimental test programs in vehicular-pedestrian impacts, supervision of
the research activities of undergraduate and graduate students, and
scholarly writing and presentation. Prior experience in academia is
preferred, but applicants with strong, research-oriented industrial
experience will be considered. Applicants are advised that the position
