National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) and the
Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI)

The National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) is an
interdisciplinary Research Institute at NUI, Galway, established in 1999.
The NCBES brings together engineers, IT specialists, physicians and
scientists in a shared, team-based and problem-centred approach to research.
In 2003 the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) at the NCBES was
established, through an SFI Centre for Science Engineering and Technology

(CSET) award, and industry funding, totaling 19M Euro. The goal of REMEDI is
to explore the synergies of gene therapy and adult stem cell therapy to
promote tissue repair and regeneration. Initial targets will include the
regeneration of cardiac tissue, new blood vessels, bone and cartilage.

Applications are invited for the following position:

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN NOVEL MEDICAL DEVICE DEVELOPMENT

A postdoctoral researcher position (up to four years) to perform research in
the area of the analysis and design of minimally invasive medical devices,
for the treatment cardiovascular disease using gene and cell therapies. The
project addresses the need for the development of suitable devices for the
delivery of these highly novel gene and cell therapeutic products to the
coronary system. The work will involve device analysis and design, computer
modelling, in-vitro experimental testing and pre-clinical assessment. The
work will be based on a strong link between engineering design, biological
performance and clinical need, and the researcher will work closely with the
other members of the REMEDI multidisciplinary project team.

Applicants will ideally have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials
engineering or biomedical engineering, or in a related discipline. The
starting salary will be 34,400 Euro per annum.
