Subject: [BIOMCH-L] Off-the-shelf 6-DOF sensors query
Greetings All,

We are after a small light-weight off-the-shelf 6-DOF sensor or sensor pack
(3 rate gyros (for example Analog Devices ADXRS300), 3 accelerometers and
idealy 3 magnetometers as well). Does anyone know of a vendor that
manufactures / integrates such a sensor? Any feedback from people, who
have been using a similar sensor would be greatly appreciated.

Summary of replies:

The replies that I have received indicate that only two companies integrate
accelerometers, rate gyros and magnetometers into one miniature sensor;

Larger sensor packs;

6-DOF electromagnetic sensors;

Gyro / accelerometers / magnetometers manufacturers;

I appologise, if I have failed to mention anyone. Please email me, if you
wish to receive a detailed tech specs comparison table of the various

I'm using the MT9 sensor module, made by Xsens.

We were searching for such sensors to analyze Badminton strokes. Xsens
(www.xsens.com) produces the kind of sensors (3 rate gyros, 3
accelerometers, 3 magnetometers integrated) you are looking for. They work
with sampling frequencies up to 512 Hz and a range up to +/- 20g, e.g.,
too low for badminton. If you need very small and light-weight sensors,
the Xsens-system might be to heavy and to big, especially, when you are
dealing with very fast movements.

Microstrain, Inc. offers such a sensor pack, with computer interface.
They are at www. micorstrain.com, and are located in Vermont.

I think the MicroStrain system requires a starter pack to be purchased. An

Thank you for your interest in our products. We use both the Murata and
Analog devices gyros' on our products. We use Analog Devices ADXL202JE and
ADXL210JE accelerometers. The magnetometers that we use are the HMC1052
HMC1053 manufactured by Honeywell.
