PhD scholarship - Sydney, Australia
The relationship between respiration and stuttering.

We are seeking a highly motivated graduate to apply for a 3-year PhD
scholarship to investigate the role of breathing in stuttering. The
project involves measures of respiratory function in control subjects and
in children and adults who are affected by stuttering. The research is
funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and is a joint project
involving the Australian Stuttering Research Centre and the School of
Exercise and Sport Science at The University of Sydney, and the School of
Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at The University of Queensland.

Suitable candidates should have:
- Honours degree (at least 2nd Class) or Masters degree in movement
science, biomechanics, speech pathology, engineering or other relevant
discipline.
- Strong quantitative and experimental skills, especially experience in
biological measurement and signals analysis.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
In some cases, students without an honours degree may be eligible to apply.

The PhD scholarship offers an annual stipend of AUD$25,000 (tax exempt), for a
period of three years, commencing in 2005. There is flexible funding for
living expenses and conference travel and a thesis allowance. Stipends and
allowances are indexed annually.
