The University of Melbourne

An opportunity exists for a dynamic individual to join
one of Australia's leading Anatomy Departments. Your
major role will be in the teaching of topographic
anatomy to students in medicine, science and the
health professions. In addition, there is opportunity
for you to maintain an active research program and to
participate in research in and beyond the department.
You will carry out administrative duties associated
with Departmental research and teaching. You may also
supervise Honours and postgraduate students

You are expected to have a medical degree, a PhD, or a
professional degree in a related relevant area. An
excellent record in teaching and the organization of
teaching topographic anatomy is desirable.

Research areas represented in the Department include
Neuroscience: which encompasses sensory mechanisms,
autonomic neuroscience, pain research, developmental
neurobiology, axon guidance, glial cell biology and
behavioural neuroscience, Cell and molecular biology,
which includes oncogene research, growth and
differentiation factors, drosophila genetics lens
development and connective tissue biology, Applied
anatomy and biomechanics which incorporates spinal
segmental testing, connective tissue histology,
mapping of arterial territories and distribution of
muscle fibre types.

Facilities include: molecular biology, tissue culture,
primate neurophysiology, cell physiology, including
intracellular and patch recording laboratories,
biomechanics laboratory, confocal microscopy, IT and
graphics support, time-lapse microscopy, modern animal
house facilities, including facilities for maintenance
of transgenic animals.

The benefits: Salary will depend on qualifications and
experience and will be in the following ranges:
$59,536 - $70,699 p.a. (Lecturer, Level B), $72,932 -
$84,096 p.a. (Senior Lecturer, Level C). Employer
superannuation contributions of 17 percent, salary
packaging and staff training and development
