View Full Version : Shear forces through the quadriceps

I am working on a load case scenario involving a parachute harness but
because of the configuration of the experiment, all of the loading is not
vertical. We are certain that the maximum vertical loading scenario is safe
for a human subject based off of loads seen on the body when running
publications as well as opening shock data/publications from skydiving and
lanyard data/publications.

We cannot find sufficient information on shear loads to the upper shank.
This load is applied perpendicularly to the each thigh of the subject, it is
distributed about the parachute harness. We need information on what
forces/moments are needed to dislocate a hip joint or to pull or tear
tendons connecting the pelvis to the quadriceps.

If you know of modeling software that can model a dynamic situation like
this one, that would be helpful too.

A Better Picture:

This test scenario is similar to a parachute harness drop test, but the
harness attachment point is in such a location to cause approximately 60% of
the harness response to act vertically in-line with the femor and
approximately 40% of the harness repsonse to shear the femor.
