The Vascular Bioengineering Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking a research engineer. The primary focus of this position is the development and implementation of computational models of normal and aneurysmal aortas, including 3D reconstruction of CT images, constitutive modeling and finite element modeling.

The successful candidate would also possess the ability to perform certain laboratory experiments (e.g., biomechanical testing of tissue), troubleshoot laboratory equipment, program and debug computer systems, analyze medical images, procure tissue samples from the OR and autopsy suite, and create and maintain a variety of databases. Knowledge of various 3D solid modeling and visualization software, computer simulation skills, finite element analysis and PC-based programming is essential. Knowledge or ability to learn the data acquisition/motion control software LabView is desired. Additionally, statistical data analysis and the ability to provide assistance with written submissions (e.g., grant proposals, manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, IRB protocols, etc.) is a plus.

Candidates with MS degrees (or BS degrees with significant related experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanics or related engineering disciplines with a particularly strong background in finite element modeling and biomechanical testing of biologic structures are encouraged to apply.

Salary level will be commensurate with previous experience and within the constraints of the position. We are currently accepting applications for this immediate opening and will continue until the position is filled.
