OPEN POSITION
The Shriners Hospitals for Children, Erie PA, is pleased to announce an
immediate opening for a Kinesiologist / Engineer to join its clinical and
research team in a state-of-the-art Motion Analysis Laboratory. Here,
Clinical needs drive parallel programs in Research and Education, with a
focus on mathematically optimized biomechanics.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This professional member of the Biomechanics team will: (1) provide
technical support for the Laboratory by maintaining and recommending
equipment, by sharing data collection and processing responsibilities, and
by consulting on methodology for independent and team research; (2) provide
clinical support by assisting with physical examinations, by writing gait
analysis reports, and by attending patient care conferences with medical
staff; and (3) act as technical liaison for the Laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in
Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Engineering, Physics, or a related field;
candidates with graduate degrees will also be considered. Strong verbal and
written communication skills are essential. Experience in gait analysis will
allow for immediate clinical responsibilities, and an interest in general
Biomechanics of human movement will facilitate new protocol development. A
working knowledge is needed in three-dimensional, six degree-of-freedom
kinematic and kinetic analyses, and in custom software development (e.g.,
Visual Basic, C++, Matlab, etc.). Familiarity with Vicon motion capture
systems and forward dynamics will be given special consideration.

FACILITIES
The Motion Analysis Laboratory and adjacent offices occupy more than 1500
square feet in a new wing of this pediatric orthopedic hospital. Major
equipment includes a ten-camera Vicon 612 system, three moveable AMTI force
plates, MLS surface and fine-wire EMG instrumentation, an S-VHS
observational video system, several networked computers, and Visual3D
modeling software. The city of Erie is located in the northwest corner of
Pennsylvania, along the shores of Lake Erie, and is adjacent to rolling,
tree-covered hills. Several universities and medical centers offer
collaboration (e.g., National Institutes of Health, Penn State, Stanford,
University of Wisconsin, etc.), and metropolitan areas in Cleveland,
Pittsburgh, and Buffalo are within a comfortable two-hour drive.

APPLICATION
Please send your curriculum vitae and a brief statement of your interest in
biomechanics to Dr. Buczek at the address below. Electronic copies are
welcome. Please also note that Dr. Buczek will be available to discuss this
opportunity while at the ISB/ASB conference in Cleveland OH, USA, Aug 1-5,
where he can be contacted at the Comfort Inn Downtown.

(EOE/m/f/v/h, Shriners Hospitals for Children maintains a drug free
workplace.)
