Research Engineer

Position Description:

Create and/or apply clinically relevant biomechanical testing and analysis and design verification and validation guidance for product development projects. Conduct data analysis and interpretation of results. Document results through reports or publication including presentation as necessary.

Develop and/or apply analysis and/or test methods as necessary including establishing clinical relevance.

Actively participate in technology & advanced implant design development.

Conduct both physical and virtual biomechanical research and analysis.

Develop test protocols & oversee biomechanical testing.

Specify and provide engineering analysis, design verification and validation guidance for product development projects based on biomechanical principles through Design Control team participation.

Conduct data analysis and interpretation of results.

Provide biomechanical technical guidance to junior level engineers.

Demonstrate creativity in biomechanical research.

Generate technical memos and reports to a level of detail as required by the audience, up to and including that necessary to support a regulatory submission.

Conduct literature searches and monitor technical publications to stay abreast of latest methods and clinical issues. This includes participation in standards organizations (ASTM, ISO, etc.)

Publish where appropriate and present results to internal and external customers as necessary to support product development efforts.

Qualifications/Work Experience:

Minimum 3 years in theoretical or experimental biomechanics.
Data analysis and interpretation required.
Knowledge of mechanical test equipment and FEA & computer modeling skills necessary.
Demonstrated accomplishment and creativity in biomechanics.
Provide biomechanical guidance to junior level engineers.
Participate in ASTM standardization as necessary.
Conduct literature searches & monitor industry publications to monitor emerging clinical findings and issues.
Demonstrated inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills.

Education and/Special Training:

BS degree in Mechanical or Biomedical engineering, minimum. An MS degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering is needed. Advanced degrees preferred.
