View Full Version : Intra-muscular pressure measurement

Dear All

I'm carrying out functional electrical stimulation experiments and
recording the muscle response using a constant flow catheter to record
the intra-muscular pressure. However the method has the shortcoming of
being very sensitive to movement artifact which, not surprisingly, is a
problem when stimulating large muscles with single twitches. Recording
the summation effect is much less troublesome.

Has anybody any experience of using a constant-flow catheter system to
record single twitch responses of muscle pressure. And if so, how was
the movement artifact minimised. In our experimental protocol, it is
not possible to perform an isometric contraction.

Also, has anybody used the Samba optical system for muscle response
measurements and if so was the system successful?

Many thanks in advance

Paul O'Callaghan
