Full time position in Biomechanics of Implants and Bone Structures

Starting from the academic year 2006-2007 there is a vacancy for a full
time academic faculty position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Division of Biomechanics and Engineering Design, with the following profile.

The area of scientific research will be biomechanics, more specifically
experimental research as well as numerical modeling of orthopaedic and
dental implants and bone structures. The research will focus on the
influence of biomechanical and material factors upon the osseointegration
and long term functionality of orthopaedic and dental implants, and on the
development of diagnostic and monitoring techniques for osseointegration,
osteoporosis, fracture healing and bone formation. Techniques to be
developed and applied are: finite element modeling and computer
simulations; mechanical tests; vibration and ultrasound propagation
analysis techniques; and animal experiments including tissue
characterization by micro-computed tomography and other imaging and
measuring techniques. The research will be performed in close collaboration
with teams of the Faculty of Medicine (Orthopaedics, Dentistry,
Rheumatology, Periodentology) as well as with the Department of Metallurgy
and Materials Engineering. The candidate will act as a promoter or co
promoter of ongoing and new projects in collaboration with the
abovementioned teams.
The teaching assignments include courses and tutorials in biomechanics and
related areas.

The position is announced on the website of K.U.Leuven at
www.kuleuven.be/admin/rd/niv3p/vzap6/ad-j02twn.htm

Those wishing to present themselves as candidates should use the form A3
(with the questionnaire). The form can be downloaded from
