The Department of Sport and Exercise Science wishes to appoint an academic
staff member at the level of Associate Professor.

Location: Auckland
Term of Contract: Permanent
Closing Date: 1 March 2006
Position Overview: The Department of Sport and Exercise Science wishes to
appoint an academic staff member at the level of Associate Professor.

The successful applicant will be required to teach and conduct research in
their area of speciality. It is envisaged that in due course the successful
applicant will assume the Headship of the Department.

The Department of Sport and Exercise Science is an interdisciplinary
department with expertise spanning the social to biological study of human
movement, and is committed to developing high quality professionals in
sport, exercise, movement science, health, ergonomics and/or rehabilitation.
Particular areas of specialty are biomechanics, cardiac rehabilitation,
exercise physiology, exercise rehabilitation, motor control, and sport and
exercise psychology. The Department offers BSc, MSc and PhD degrees within
the Faculty of Science. Further information about the department can be

Job Description:

Purpose Statement: To teach and conduct research in the field of sport and
exercise science.
Responsible To: Head, Department of Sport and Exercise Science

Key Accountability Areas:

* Provide research-informed quality undergraduate and graduate teaching.

* Provide quality supervision to graduate students at both masters and PhD
level

* Sustain a dynamic research programme which is supported by externally
funded grants

* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within Sport and Exercise
Science, and establish collaborations with members of the Faculty of Science
and the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

* Engage in service work appropriate to the level of appointment

* Other activities as may be appropriate from time to time.

Person Specification:

Qualifications: PhD and expertise in Sport and Exercise Science.
Experience: Demonstrated ability in research, teaching and administration
is required for this position.
