THE CENTRE FOR BIOENGINEERING RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

The Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education (CBRE) at the
University of Calgary seeks to fill two tenure track positions at the
Assistant Professor Level. The CBRE is a multi-faculty unit located in
the Schulich School of Engineering (SSE) responsible for promoting
biomedical engineering research and teaching biomedical engineering
courses. The successful candidates will be expected to complement the
current biomedical engineering group in the University, to participate
in joint projects, and to develop a strong research programme using the
extensive experimental and numerical analysis facilities available. The
appointees will be expected to teach at both graduate and undergraduate
levels in their relevant area of biomedical engineering and in other
related engineering and/or kinesiology courses. Strong interpersonal
skills are necessary. One of the two positions will have a half-time
cross-appointment into the Faculty of Kinesiology while both positions
will be affiliated with one or more Departments within the SSE.
Applicants who can teach within the disciplines of Civil and Geomatics
Engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must hold a PhD and have demonstrated research excellence in
bioengineering. The selected candidates are expected to provide
leadership and vision to the bioengineering core of the undergraduate
curriculum and to develop further research and graduate studies in this
area. Research interests of applicants should lie within the broad
spectrum of bioengineering, but some preference will be given to at
least one applicant having capabilities in cardiovascular mechanics. The
applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas;
anatomy, physiology, cardiovascular mechanics, biomechanics,
biomaterials, cell and tissue engineering, and techniques for precise
reconstruction and manipulation of biomedical data. The selected
candidates must be able to teach, between them, undergraduate SSE
courses related to anatomy and physiology, structural mechanics, and
techniques for manipulating biomedical data, along with a biomechanics
course within the Faculty of Kinesiology. Preference for the full
engineering position will be given to those eligible for, or already
P.Eng. Industrial experience would be an asset. Appointments will
commence July 1 or August 1, 2006.

The University of Calgary is one of Canada’s top seven research
universities. The University is located in the vibrant City of Calgary
near Banff National Park and the Rocky Mountains. The 40 year old
university is growing rapidly, with sponsored research revenues more
than doubling in the past five years. The Schulich School of Engineering
recently became the only named Engineering Faculty in Canada as part of
a $50 million endowment.

Applicants should apply by April 3, 2006, providing a c.v. and a concise
statement of research and teaching interests, addressing in particular
the required teaching needs, to:
N.G. Shrive, Acting Director
Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education, ICT 203
University of Calgary
2500 University Drive NW
Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2N 1N4

or by email to: dhague@ucalgary.ca

Three references should be included with the application, in
countersigned sealed envelopes, or e-mailed directly (with hard copy to
follow) to: dhague@ucalgary.ca.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority. The University of Calgary
respects, appreciates, and encourages diversity.
