View Full Version : push off phase for vertical jump

Hello everyone,

I'm a new subscriber to this group and have a question. The company
I work with is developing an accelerometry based motion analysis
product designed specifically for power based sports.

My question: During a vertical jump should the beginning of the
push-off phase of the jump be where acceleration is zero (before
the actual displacement begins) or where velocity becomes positive
(displacement becomes apparent)?

Force plate software seems to base their calculations on the
acceleration (force) at the zero mark. Is there any dispute over
this? Thank you for all the information you can provide me.
